Last week we talked about your attitude and how it impacts your life. If you are still finding it difficult to find the good in your life and be positive, well I have good news for you! The easiest way to change your attitude is by having gratitude!
Gratitude is all about finding anything and everything that you can be thankful for. When was the last time you grateful to just be alive and breathing? Do you thank your spouse or children for helping you do things? Even if you ask them for help, it’s good to thank them. Even if you feel it’s expected of them, you should be grateful for their help. Why? Because being grateful is a mood boost for you and the person you’re thanking. Being in gratitude has been known to help with anxiety, stress and help keep people positive.
If you don’t know where to start, then start simple. Think of one thing every day that you are grateful for. Then, after you have made that a habit, bump it up to three things every day that you are grateful for. I have found that writing down 3-5 things every morning that I am grateful for sets my mood for the day and gives me a better attitude.
Another way to practice daily gratitude is every evening, write down all the things that you can think of that happened in your day that you are grateful for. This tends to help people sleep more restfully and it’s a good reminder that even if you had rough patches in your day, there were other parts that were good. It’s easier to sleep when you focus on the good parts of your day instead of ruminating on the negative parts. There are added bonuses in lots of areas of your life when it comes to gratitude. Start practicing gratitude right now and see a boost in your attitude.
