Tips to Be More Productive

Do you want to be more productive? The following 10 tips are easy to implement and can help you increase your productivity immediately. Being more productive will not only help you achieve your goals and success more quickly, it will cause you to be in momentum. Being in momentum boosts your confidence and self-esteem and makes you feel more accomplished. It is a win-win all around!

  1. Don’t Multitask: Focus on one task at a time. This will ensure that you are giving your full attention to what you are doing and increase your ability to utilize the power of the flow state. Use your to do list and pick off one item at a time. This is a sure fire way to be in momentum, because when you complete one task you feel so great that you want to complete another!

  2. Stay Hydrated: Make sure that you drink water at regular intervals throughout the day. You can, of course, drink other beverages that contain water such as tea, coffee or herbal teas but don’t consume too much caffeine. Maintaining proper hydration will ensure that your brain and energy levels are optimal. I think this is just a good tip for everything in life. I have recently learned that your whole body can stop functioning without warning when you are dehydrated. So, please don’t let that happen! Drink your water!

  3. Delegate or Outsource: Having too much to do can hinder progress as you will focus on those items that aren’t getting done which will cause stress and anxiety. Wherever possible delegate or outsource anything that is inessential or that you are not interested in completing. Paying a cleaner to look after your housework will save you time, energy and stress. Another way to look at this is, to do household chores with your children. You are getting things done, teaching them how to get things done AND spending time with them. What a WIN!

  4. Plan: You can’t achieve anything without knowing what it is you want to achieve. You need to know your goals. It’s also important to create a plan on how to achieve them. Setting yourself daily goals and using a to do list to help you identify what you need to achieve each day is one great way to get everything done. However, if that intimidates you, then write down everything you need to get done (like a brain dump) and just pick one or two of the most important to get done for the day. If you get those done and you want to do more, great, but if not, leave the rest until another day. Living in a state of overwhelm will not help you be productive. Again if you need to, delegate the ones that you can that you can’t get to.

  5. Time Block: Identify when you are at your most productive. Are you at your best first thing in the morning? Whatever time of day it is, schedule your most important tasks for that time. Use the Pomodoro Technique. Set a timer for a specific amount of time and only focus on that task. When your timer goes off, give yourself a small break. If you didn’t complete the task just repeat this all over again. This breaks it down into smaller, more manageable chunks. If you did complete the task then start a new one. I typically do this technique 4-5 times in a morning before I take a longer break.

  6. Use an Accountability Partner: Make yourself accountable by telling someone else what you want to achieve. Make sure you give them a target date. Report your progress regularly. By making yourself accountable you are increasing your chance of success. You’ll also have someone to talk to should things go wrong. This works great for big tasks or projects. Just be sure you give yourself grace if life gets in the way. Make sure your accountability partner will be firm but not so firm that it ruins the relationship.

  7. Remove Distractions: If you want to become more productive then you need to remove distractions. Turn off the television and your mobile phone, shut down all social media and email. Set a specific time aside each day when you can use15 ….3.those things and for the rest of the time you’ll be more productive as you won’t be constantly disturbed by messages and notifications. This is good to do when you are utilizing the Pomodoro Technique too.

  8. Prioritize: Sort your tasks by importance. Do the most important ones first as they are the ones that will play on your mind the most if they are not completed. In business, those tasks that earn you money or are essential for your well-being are considered to be the most important and should be given top priority.

  9. #Relax: This may sound counter-intuitive but relaxing does help increase your productivity! Learn how to relax and spend regular periods of time out during the day. This personal time will give you the opportunity to focus on yourself and your needs. They will lessen stress and anxiety. Plus it will give you more energy to get everything done!

  10. Be an Early Riser: The most successful people tend to be early risers. They have discovered that by getting up earlier they not only achieve more in their day, the day starts in a more controlled and productive manner. Use the time to meditate, exercise, read or learn something. Or even get that to-do list done so you have the day to do other things.

You can become more productive if you use the tips above. If you’re not sure where to start, then complete the action points below right now.

  1. Create your to do list. Highlight or circle the most important task

  2. Turn off or remove all distractions and start on the most important item that you marked on your list.

  3. Tidy your desk, or kitchen table, or counter or wherever clutter lives. Removing clutter can help remove distractions and reduce stress.
